Where can I find a knitting pattern to make a sweater with a confederate soldier knitted into the sweater?

I have done fair isle knitting in the past and would like to make this as a gift for some civil war re enactors that I know.

how do you make a knitted scarf stop curling at the sides?

i’m knitting a scarf with a knit one row, purl one row pattern, and it keeps curling on the sides. how can i keep it from curling in on the sides because right now it just looks like a really long knitted cylinder, and it’s not attractive.
