I tried using the ultimate sweater machine. The carridge stuck on the needles out of work and jammed a ton, which was frightfully frustrating (just ask my husband). I’d suggest using a machine with needles that have multiple positions. I got a couple from ebay, but only more than one because not all of the pieces worked or fit together.
I know have a frankenstein-brother knitting machine, but hey it works.
Thanks! I figured out that I probably should have left the needles in work after I made the video, good call. I will try the double stranding next time.
Cheryl, Thanks for posting these videos – they are fabulous!! Another way to try that crochet cast-on is to put ALL the needles in work position. Do your crochet cast-on across all, then pull back the 6 needles to out of work position across the bed. This will be easier and give an even cast-on row. Another thing to try is to double strand the yarn for the cast-on row – this will give a little more weight to the edge. Anyway, I think you’re brilliant for coming up with this. Thanks for sharing!

You do such a nice job of explaining and demonstrating. And you do not appear to be a novice; I think maybe you’re just a natural.
Thank you for sharing this lovely pattern
thats brilliant. will this work with a bond ultimate sweater machine? and you dont have to use the hem weight?
