Hello knitters! This video is designed to give you lots of clear and helpful information about changing between the two foundation stitches of knitting: the knit stitch and the purl stitch. I have also posted detailed videos regarding the individual stitches and how to make them. For other knitting and crochet videos, check out my channel. Thank you for this video! I was getting so confused. I love how easy you make it look. I can’t wait to get better so I can knit and purl fast, too.
Thanks!
It was really annoying me having more stitches than I was supposed to.
I get to have fun combining them now.. Ah well, at least it won’t happen again
Thank you so much for clearing comb stitch up for me! It was driving me nuts not understanding why I was seeing so many more loops on my needles than there should have been. *laugh*
FAB! So simple yet it had me in a tizz! Thanks heaps!
Thanks for this! I watched videos on how to knit and how to pearl but couldnt find one that combined changing between the two- im all set now!
Thank you so much because when I tried to learn this from my mother she moved too fast and didn’t talk me through it. This really helped me out so now it makes more sense to me. Once again thank you so much!
Thank you! Now I can see what I was doing wrong! I am so excited to get back to my knitting now~!
thank you thank you!!!!!
Your technique is so smooth. I have been knitting for a month, and I am very jerky. Please tell me that it will get better. It’s especially difficult to switch between purl and knit stitch and hold on to the needles.
Thank you so much for posting this – I was going crazy trying to figure out why mine wasn’t working!
For 1×1 ribbing, if you have an even number of stitches, every row is the same (i.e., k1, p1, k1, p1, etc). If you have an odd number of stitches, the rows are worked just like you wrote.
thank you!
but do i have to change the knit itu purl in next row like
1st: knit purl knit purl
2nd: purl knit purl ??
I LOVE YOU! I was going crazy! thx thx thx thx thx!
Thank you for your video! I have a book on knitting which is supposed to be all inclusive, but I couldn’t find how to switch between the knit and purl stitch anywhere. Your tutorial has saved me from undue stress. Thank you!!!
Oh, thank you so much! This was exactly what I needed!
This is exactly what I needed…I couldn’t figure out how to switch between the two. This made it very clear and simple.

omg thank you this is exactly what i needed!!
Your videos are SOO helpful. Thank you SO much!
I couldn’t say what looks ‘best’ – it depends on your personal taste. How about you make a small square of each fabric and see what you like! Elsteffo
You are a wonderful human being.
I LOVE YOU. I’ve been messing this up all night, and you’ve made it all clear. THANKS!!!!
Thank you so much! I am just learning to knit, and I was getting so frustrated trying to switch between knit and purl in the same row. This video made it crystal clear! I’m so excited! (((hugs)))
Finally it’s clear to me why any patterns I try that include alternating knit/purl stiches haven’t been working! Thank you… this video was very helpful
Wow. Ribbing is pretty, too.
