I always get a bit choked up at Neil’s comments by the window. I can see why this won awards and why it could have been a big mistake in the hands of a hack documentarian.

i’m sorry–these people that marry are not related to each other–that is illegal and against the law–there is no inbreeding here–these people are normal-and like everyone else –they have faults like getting into trouble -some of them by drinking too much–yes; there are liquor stores around-not stills; anymore–enough with the hillbilly sterotyping–enough with all sterotyping!
This film was made in SAUL, KY..It’s a community near BUCKHORN (Perry Co.), LESLIE CO, & CLAY CO.. It’s about 25 miles from where I live. Lots of people on here put us down. I have been to 42 states & there are poor country people in every state. My family have always been upper middle class & held respectable jobs. I am very proud of my Appalachian roots. We do have our own way of living & we like it. Folks here will go out of their way to help someone & that’s very hard to find these days!
