I was wondering if there are places that I can knit things to donate to poor people, hospitalized people, 3rd world countries, homeless people etc. Any ideas?
Try contacting your local craft store. They may know what charities in your area do the knitting for homeless, sick and people overseas. There are quite a few organizations and churches that do so and are always looking for donations but it varies by city and state. Also try googling knitting donations or knitting charities or look at the Knit Unto Others web site. Good luck!
Not sure if you are in Canada, US or somewhere else but, check out your local food banks, homeless shelters, youth drop in programs or local religious organizations.
I make scarves all year and come October, donate them to a local youth drop in centre. The kids there are so grateful to get a good, warm scarf. We also have schools that really appreicate them for the younger classes in some of our really disadvantaged schools. Christmas Cheer Board includes knitted scarves, hats and mitts in all of their hampers and some of the childrens hospitals like the little tiny knitted caps for the newborns.
Call around and I am sure you will find someone who will be grateful to accept these things from you.
By the way, good for you for doing something for someone else who can really use it! Too many people today are only looking to make a buck! Give yourself a pat on the back and take care!
Check your local Ronald McDonald house, LaCasa Esperanza or other cancer hospice, the Battered Adults center, and your local hospital preemie ward.
All of these are local and in need for all of us.
Ronald McDonald house is for the families of children with severe life threatening diseases, LaCasa Esperanza is our local cancer victims hospice, Battered Adults centers are for those who get beaten by their spouse and leave with only the clothes on their backs, and the Preemie ward of the hospital needs those tiny caps and things for the tiniest of God’s creatures.

Try a thrift store- one of the national ones or smaller local stores. They are often tied to charities.
You might also want to find a ‘safe house’ in your town. They usually everything to get abused families resettled.

Try project linus. They give new handmade quilts and knit/crocheted blankets to seriously ill or traumatized children.

They’re always happy to receive handmade blankies and the materials to make them.
