Just look at it and knit on the purl and purl on the knit. OK?
We call it moss stitch in the UK. If you have an odd number of stitches, then always start with a knit stitch. That’s how it will be easy to remember.
here is how you can tell if the stitch is a knit or purl stitch.

click on the video that says seed stitch. its under basic stitch patterns.
after that you knit the purls and purl the knits.
Time to learn to read the stitches. If the stitch immediately below the needle looks like a V, purl it. If it looks like a bump, knit it. The V’s are stitches you purled on the other side and the bumps are knits on the other side.
