when doing moss stitch the front of work and back of work should look the same.
With the moss stitch you do not have rows or columns of either stitch since the stitches alternate over each other. K1, P1 with the knit stitch over a purl stitch on the previous row. Front and back will always look the same.
Moss stitch is a reversible pattern much like seed stitch

the top one I’ve always heard of as Seed Stitch, and the bottom one as Irish Moss
