I’m going to a “knitting camp” to learn to knit, and I need to take project materials along.
I have lots of scarves, hats and mittens from my knitting sisters. What else could I make that’s easy?
I found a cute dishcloth pattern. Would that be simple enough for a beginner?
that will be extra easy. you can also make a simple sweater all you need to make would be 2 rectangles for the sleeves and 2 squares for the front and back. or you can make a shrug or a shawl which is a rectangle.
I often teach with a small felted purse. Gauge is less critical and mistakes get hidden when the purse shrinks. You can either have them knit a simple rectangle and then seam the sides or knit in the round and teach a three-needle bind off or seam the bottom.
Personally, I avoid scarves when teaching because they are so tedious for many new knitters. I like something that gets done fast and is useful year round. A good dishcloth fits the same needs.
A dishcloth is always a good project. It is small enough, and you can try out patterns. I like cotton, since it is heavy enough to see what is going on, and it is useful no matter what you make out of it.
A baby sweater is always fun to make. they are small and quick. And so cute!! Look through any Elizabeth Zimmermann book for lots of ideas.
You can knit a vest for yourself. There is very little shaping and you can use all kinds of colours or patterns in them. Again, EZ does hers in garter stitch ( so easy and boring to do) but they do look great.
You can knit anything you like. It’s only knit or purl. Some are larger and take more time… but anyone can do most anything with just a bit of knowledge.
You will have a great time at knitting camp! But try and get some sleep too!

you can make small bags, ipod/cellphone cases, coffee cozys (to keep from burning your hands while holding a hot drink).
Yes, a dishcloth should be simple enough for you to start with.

Since they’re small, dishcloths are a great for learning to knit (or learning new stitch patterns).
