I am considering cotton-ease but I am getting mixed reviews on the lion brand product. Please help! Yarn is exspencive and I can’t afford to spend money on stuff that won’t work.
I’m making a sweater. I like the feel of cotton much better then wool. I love how TLC Cotton Plus knits and cares, but I’m looking for a charcole color.

What kind of project are you making? That would determine the best yarn to use…
Cottonease is a 50% cotton 50% acrylic -3-1/2 ounces (100 grams) 207 yards. The acrylic is supposed to help the finished garment (?) keep it’s shape rather than shrinking the way that 100% cotton tends to do. Cottonease was discontinued a while back, but there was enough complaints that Lion Brand brought it back this year.
I’ve used worsted weight 100% cottons for making dishcloths, but I’d never use them for anything that wasn’t utilitarian because of the way that the yarn looks coming out of the washer & dryer.
It depends if your making a wearable or not. I used Lion Cotton for a shopping bag I knit and was happy with it, but I haven’t knit any garments out of cotton.
Cotton ease is fine. I have never had problems with Lion Brand, actually if you are on a tight budget, like I am, their wool products are also great for sweaters and socks…. Another option is Cotton Tots by Benet, but the yarn has a texture and works up looking really styled. A lot of people have a problem working with Lion Brand b/c it is a mass market company, they don’t want to admit that the companies that produce so much and make so much can be just as good as hand worked. There are alot of knitting/crochet snobs out there, these are the people that say acrylic yarns are all horrible and won’t use them at all…
Lily Brand is good I think its called Sugar and Cream I think, tons of colors hope it works for ya.
I worked at a knitting store for a year and a half, and the best cotton yarn by far is Blue Sky Alpacas brand organic or dyed cotton. I use it for everything. It is so soft, comes in a lot of colors, and is worsted weight. It’s even machine wash and dryable. It comes in hanks of 150 yds and usually costs around $10 a hank. You can find it at some yarn shops, but you can go to the blue sky site for stores that carry it. Or you could get it online. The store I worked at has an online store and carries it all the time. It is called Unwind Yarn in Burbank, CA. I just moved to NC and there are no local stores that carry Blue Sky, which is my favorite brand. They also have great alpaca obviously. I will be continuing to order it from Unwind! Nothing else compares.
