The only reason this confuses me is because it’s the first row. The pattern says:
CO 43 st.
row 1 (WS): opposite of pattern
k1, p2, k2, p6, k2, p2, k2, p9, k2, p2, k2, p6, k2, p2, k
Now, if they want me to purl the knits and knit the purls why on earth didn’t they just write it that way? Help please!

Its just means the wrong side, if you look in the pattern book where the picture is you will see what your pattern looks like and the pattern will look the opposite on the wrong side.
