I can cast on, knit and purl, join new yarn, and that’s it. I want to make Sarah, 5 going on 6 something cute for her birthday on the 29th. Any ideas? I might just make her a little purse or something.
Something really easy to make is a headband. Can you sew the ends of 2 peices of knitting together? Its just like sewing with yarn and a knitting needle. A little purse is also a good idea. I hope i helped.
I made my friends teddy bear a sleeping bag just by knitting a rectangle, folding it in half and sewing it together at each side. You could make it better by knitting a longer rectangle to start with and folding a bit of it over at the top and making that bit into an integral pillow.
I was thinking of a small purse before I saw your entire message. If you have any all-wool yarn, try knitting a bag on larger needles than you might otherwise use, and felt it (hot water, top-loading washing machine, a dash of soap, and the item in a pillowcase or lingerie bag), using information you can find online and in lots of books. That also can hide a few oddly-done stitches, as well as making a bag with a lot of body that will actually hold things.
I did a small multi-color Lion Wool bag for myself that turned out to be beautiful; the colors (purple, blue, green) swirled together in a funky way that I really like.
There are a couple of easy stuffed, knitted animals on berrocco.com’s free patterns that you could do quickly. lionbrand.com has some cute knitted animals too, and some really cute, simple things for Easter, too.
You might want to check out this page which is about things you can make using only rectangles and squares. There are two really cute bunny patterns that use 1 square.
A little purse would be very easy to make and can look great and very useful for her.
Just knit a panel as wide as you want the purse, and twice as long as the purse, plus a bit more for a flap, if you want one. Then fold up the bottom almost to the top, sew the side seams, and fold over the top for a flap. Make a nice long cord (twisted or braided) for the handle, and that is done.
If you are using real wool, you can toss it into the washer to felt it and that can look really neat. It will be smaller, so make sure you make it large enough at first. The colours tend to fuzz together, and can look very cool.
A tube top would be fun and easy to make as well. You can make two panels, and stitch then together, or make one long one (and only one seam). If you can’t measure her, make it almost long enough, and then lace a cord through the edges to tie it together, and it will be adjustable that way too.
With more time, you can knit a vest, or add sleeves and make a sweater. Lots of ideas!
