i can’t figure out if it’s me or if that is just the way the pattern is. The hole forms where the two cables diverge into one.
rows 1-6: stockinette stitch
row 7: slip 3 sts to cable needle and hold in front, k 3 sts, k 3 sts from cable needle, slip 3 sts to cable needle and hold in back, k 3 sts, k 3 sts from cable needle.
row 8: purl
That is the pattern I’m following. Is it me or the pattern? And how do I fix it?

You are doing it the right way and yes there is an opening under the cable if that is what you are saying..
