I know how to knit, purl, and a bit of crochet and I want to learn how to make my first sweater. Do you know of any good books or websites to help me???
Lionbrand.com has some good patterns and I like their yarn. the wool-ease is a good smooth yarn, lots of good colors, and available all over. You might try smileysyarns.com for some discounts, or Herrschners.com. Do not buy the cheapest yarn available, make sure it is a yarn you like, this sweater will be with you for a while, and there is no point spending time on something you hate.
DIYnet.com also has some nice patterns, and good instructions. knitting.about.com has good info and access to free patterns. knttinghelp.com has videos in case you need a reminder on how to do a stitch. Knitty.com has some lovely patterns as well as articles. My favorite book these days is Knitting Simple Jackets: 25 Beautiful Designs by Marilyn Cohen, such pretty designs! I found it in the library, you might also check out the simple knits in vogue knitting, or knit simple magazine.
Have fun!
Essentially, you knit your swatch in the yarn you like, and then measure the gauge. Then enter these numbers along with the desired size you want and it’ll help you create a knitting pattern for yourself or anyone else you’d like to make a sweater for!
