stockinette is knit one row then purl one row unless your knitting in the round then its just knit
stockinette is knit 1 row then purl one row if the pattern says purl one then knit 2 that is not stockinette
It sounds like you’re doing one of the stitches incorrectly. I think that knitting.about.com has some good diagrams to show you where you’re going wrong.
I think you are knitting one of the stitches twice. If you are one of the three stitches will show up as a purl. Go back on your work and see if this isn’t what is happening.
