Cowgirl, thanks, but it isn’t a mistake in the pattern.
the pattern goes as follows:-
cast on 128 sts, 1st 4 rows st-st. 5th row k2tog to end – 64 sts.
then next row (ws) p0, k0, p0, k2 *p5, k2, p2, k2, rep from * to last 7 sts, p5, k2, p0
This continues like this throughout the rows.
Thanks for your advice Hairbender, but I do not need to take a beginners knitting course, I can knit and can understand a pattern.
i have now looked at the pattern again, and now understand it.

It sounds like an error in the pattern. K-0 and P-0 involves doing nothing.
You are not telling us the rest of the story! There is more.
If you note, the pattern gives you the directions for different sizes. On some of the larger sizes, you need to do more stitches. But on a smaller size, you don’t need to do any. So this small section of the directions (you need to give us the WHOLE line) is only for the smaller size and it also tells you to do some numbers for the larger sizes. In this size, you don’t do any stitches.
You need to know which size you are doing. Read the directions right at the beginning of the pattern. It’s all explained there.
For this reason, I strongly suggest that you take a beginner knitting class from a qualified instructor. You would learn all these basics, and so much more, and would not be confused by these clear directions.
am intrigued, what does k0, p0 mean?
i’ve been knitting for years, and have never seen this…
Thank you for asking this! I was just looking at a pattern I was looking to knit and saw something similar “P0 (1, 1) for selvedge st” and kept thinking “how do I purl zero?” Looking back now, I realize that since I’m knitting the largest size, I’m actually purling 1.
If you hadn’t asked this (and Hairbender hadn’t answered), I would still be pulling my hair out! I was just having a short circuit of my brain!
