Most people prefer to knit, rather than to purl, but it does not really matter.
If you use a pattern for knit all stitches, but purl all stitches, you will get a proper scarf.
I think, if you only purl, it will look more or less like you’ve done garter stitch (only knit). Why not try a few rows with an odd bit of yarn?
you can make a scarf with the purl stitch.
if you purl every row then youll get the same results as garter stitch and your scarf will not curl in on itself which is a good thing.
what you read is totally false you can make anything that you want with any stitch you have in mind. you are only limited to what you can do and your imagination and creativity can think up.
as with the cons of just using the purl stitch, I there are no cons.
The purl stitch on every row will look exactly like the garter stitch which is knit on every row. Why? Because the purl stitch is the back side of the knit stitch. A purl stitch is best shown-off when used in combination with a knit stitch. If you like the look of the purl stitch, just make the scarf in stockinette stitch (knit 1 row, purl 1 row), and use the purl side (normally referred to as the back side) as the front.
