I am trying to make socks on 5 dpns and it says “turn”. What does that mean and how do I do it? I know how to knit on the dpns, but I just don’t know how to turn the work. It sounds confusing! I have tried to find instructions on the internet to turn the work, but I can’t find any. I have also tried figuring it out on my own, but I just can’t understand it! Is it just like in stockinette stitch when you have to turn to the other side of the work to purl? If you could tell me how to do it, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Are you shaping the heel or toe? You may need to knit a couple of rows that aren’t in the round. Here’s a link that might help, it has pictures of each step.

Yes, it is just like in stockinette stitch where you have to turn to the other side of the work to purl.
If you’re turning the heel, it means you now have a section that will not be knitted in the round. It’s short row shaping since you aren’t completely an entire round.
Sometimes it’s stockinette stitch and sometimes it’s “heel stitch.” It just depends on what your pattern calls for you to do.
Good Luck and keep at it!
