that should be enough for a medium length scarf depending on what kind of yarn you are working with. 7 or 8 inches is a great width for the scarf. it also depends on whether you’re crocheting or knitting.
It definately depends on the size of the yarn you are using, and also the stitch you are using. If you are using a thinner yarn, you will not get as much length…a thicker yarn will give you more length. You will get more length if you use a lacy stitch rather than a tight stitch pattern.
Check with the folks on Ravelry.com (link below). It’s sort of like “My space” for knitters, with lots of forums with literally thousands of people to answer questions like these. There’s a huge pattern browser that recognises most brands of yarn, and all the different weights of yarn. You have to sign up, and maybe wait a day or two to be approved. Even if you just want to go ahead and get started on your scarf right now, it will be an invaluable resource on your knitting journey.
