I’d like to learn to knit, but only so I can make my own scarves. How long would it take to learn how to knit, then make a nice (that is, no misplaced stitches) scarf? Thanks!
it took me a week. (a long, hard one at that)
i still haven’t made a scarf yet. i keep messing up and i have no clue on how to fix it. (so i can’t help you there) i got my friend a starters kit for her b-day. it came with a book and everything. why don’t u get one of those? it might help. my friend learned it in about a week too. once u get the idea, it gets really easy and u make less mistakes.
my first scarf was the Harry Potter year 3 scarf, it was worked in the round and it took me about a month. the scarf was 8 inches wide and was about 6 feet long.
Well it depends on how much you practice. I’d say the average person needs about 8-10 hours of knitting before they get the “hang” of it. But, I have a small disappointment for you – I’ve been knitting for 30 years and I still make mistakes. The trick isn’t in not making the mistake but in learning how to fix the mistake. There are some good books out there that can help you fix mistakes (Sometimes without ripping out rows of work).
Practice practice practice and don’t be too hard on yourself. You’d be surprised to learn that others view your work differently than you do. Good luck!

Depends on how you learn. If you have someone next to you, you can easily pick up knitting with a few hours.
