If it is still on the needles, it is very simple.
take about 2 feet of yarn from the skein & cut the end, leaving this as the tail on the piece. Put the cut end onto a yarn needle. I find it easiest to start at the opposite end of the square from where the yarn is currently attached, but you can start at the end, your choice. Slip the stitches off the knitting needle & onto the yarn needle one at a time. When you have them all off the knitting needle, pull the yarn through all the stitches until it is tight. Run the needle through the last & first stitches to secure things and then sew down the seam that this creates. Simple hat from a knitted square.
