Roll each skein into a ball and place each colour in separate bowls on the floor, then move the bowls , instead of the yarn.
Below is a link for the intarsia method when using small amounts of colour.
I have tried several ways, one is a box with holes in the top for each yarn to come through, one is separate boxes, bags, or bottles for each yarn.
But when you are doing the intricate patterns it is almost impossible.
