Double-pointed needles would count as circular needles for these instructions. For garter stitch on DPs, knit 1 round and purl 1 round, alternating as you go up. For stockinette stitch on DPs, knit every row.
On circular or DP needles, the instructions for st st and garter are reversed, as you may’ve noticed. Fun, hm? On DPs or circulars, the stockinette is the one with no purling.
on double pointed needles to get garter sttich, you knit one row, purl the next.
for stockin stitch, you knit every row.
Garter stitch in the round on double points is just that, knit the one round and purl the next round. Stockinette stitch is simply knit every round. I know this seems backwards, but when you work in the round you only work on one face of the fabric and need to work it opposite what you would if you worked it flat to get the stitch you want.
