I knitted one row K1 P1 alternating, now i’m suppose to just knit the second row… there seems to be so many stitches on the needle… and the yarn is like everywhere. What did I do wrong?
Would the number of stitches I have to knit in the second row be the same as the number of stitches I casted on?
Thank you so much! any help would be appreciated

It should be the same number of sts as you started with, yeah. I think you have forgotten to take the yarn over between knit and purl sts. before a purl stitch stitch the yarn should be on the closest side of your work to yourself, behind the work for a knit stitch. In k1 p1 rib you need to keep taking the yarn forward and back between stitches.
buy a book or related dvd to learn, they are very easy to learn.
by a way, have you knitting before?
What you should do is use stitch markers and put 1 every 10 or 20 stitches . They’re inexpensive and you can get them at Michael’s or Joanne’s. This helps a lot and you don’t have to be counting the whole row all the time. Also make sure that when, for example you knit a stitch, when you are done bring the yarn to the front of the work and when you are done with this purl stitch you send the yarn to the back of the work. You have probably been doing what is called “yarn over”, and is used to increase and do laced patterns. Well, be patient and have fun!!!!!
When you K1P1, you must adjust where your left hand yarn is in between every stitch. It seems as if you didn’t do that, thus doubling your stitches!
I understand how this would drive you insane.
Rip it all out, and start over from the very beginning.

When performing the knit stitch, the yarn coming from the ball should be behind the needle as in needle between you & the yarn. For the purl, you need to have the yarn between you & the needle. Every stitch, after you pull the stitch off, move the yarn either towards you or away from you for the next stitch.
