I’ve just barely mastered casting on and knitting the first row. But how do you knit the second row?
Where do you insert the needle? In the casted on stitch, in the first row stitch, or what?

just take the 2nd needle (one w/ out and stiches) and put it under, yet through the first stich on the other needle. Make sure you put it in on the side that has a string runnning off it and to the ball of yarn, then repeate
if you have already casted on and knitted the first row. you know that when you casted on you held the needle with the cast on stitches in your left hand and the needle with no stitches in right. as you knit the stitches transfer from left needle to right. once the first row is knitted all you stitches are in right hand needle. Now you switch needles. the needle with stitches go back in left hand and the empty needle goes in right hand and you knit the same way you knitted the first row. the only difference is that first row when u started knitting were casted on and now you already have a knit row. you simply repeat what you did for first row. you knit what is on the needle.
bring the needle without any thing on it, insert it through the back side of the first stitch, bring yarn around the stitch and insert needle through the stitch and slip loop onto needle without stitches on it. Good luck. I’m a hands showing kind a of person. it’s very had for me to explain without actually showing someone how to knit. There are a lot of websites out there for the help. good luck. Its all most as if your are knitting your cast on stitches.
This is a video showing how to do continental knitting but you can also clearly see where the needle goes into the work to form the first stitch:

Hope this helps. Good luck.
Yes, you just knit the second row much as you did the first row. Knitting is all rather boring.. you do the same thing over and over and over. But the result !!! It’s all worth it.
I like this site http://www.knittinghelp.com/ for learning a lot about all the stitches, and many techniques you will one day need. And they have videos as well. Look on YouTube for videos too, but some are not very well done. Search for Lucy Neatby, or Cat Bordhi for some advanced work, but they are very good teachers.
