Im trying to learn how to knit again because i forgot pretty much everything i had learned. Anyways im trying to get the twisted look you get from using a cable but it just turns out like a mess . i dont know if you start using it from the beginning or what. i try reading patterns or whatever, but i have a hard time understanding all that abbreviation crap
So before i get the part where i put the cable on….am i purling up until that point? or ribbing or what? and if im purling one row that i do the cable, then the next row i knit the row, am i supposed to purl the cable?

lol, i knit but im not sure i know any sites. try googling it, that would work. i dont think i could explain here, that would probably take hours!
did you forget knitting altogether or just some stiches and stufff? sites with pictures work the best

Working a cable………Slip next 3 stitches onto a cable needle. Holding the cable needle with 3 slipped stitches in front of work, knit next 3 stitches, knit 3 stitches from cable needle. Amount of stitches may vary and cable needle with stitches may be held in front or back of work. You usually start it in the first row. The next time you do this will be indicated in your pattern.

The cable is on the first row it can be on the first row of the work or after the ribbing. it is worked on the knitting side.

I would also recommend the book “Knitting in Plain English” by Maggie Righetti. It is very easy-to-understand and explains abbreviations as well as lots of other things. Amazon.com sells it. You may also be able to get it at the library.

What I do with abbrevs — I write/type the pattern, and put in the full explanation after the abbrevs
This way, I don’t have to keep looking at the explanation of the abbrevs … just knit!
Sometimes, with long instructions, I type each section of the instructions on a separate line … that helps me to focus, too.
