I have been doing it for years and learned how to do it myself. Trial and error.
I love it! There are many ways to accomplish the same end result. Some are easier and faster and some are easier to learn. While I have learned much through trial and error, I am always interested in how someone else does something. They may have a better way than what I have figured out. I think it is a great idea to share knowledge. It is said knitting and crocheting are lost arts. maybe if we share them, as well as share our tips and ideas, more people would be interested!
I love seeing help tips about any craft. I taught myself to crochet when I quit smoking. No one around me did this craft. They all knitted. I really struggled. I would go to the local Ben Franklin and pick the brains of the sales ladies up there when I could get away from the house. I started out making trapezoids instead of squared samples because I didn’t know how to go into the next row. Finally, I attempted making a vest, thinking making an item might help. It surely did. However, I could make the side they gave directions for, but had difficulties turning things around to make the other side when doing the increases or decreases for the armhole, etc. I actually tried putting the crochet hook in my left hand, thinking that would make it okay. Little by little, it got better and better. I never did know the best way to sew pieces together so that the seams were smooth and so the yarns didn’t show and the best way to weave the ends into the stitches. I’m all for any help I can get to make my project look better. Thanks for bringing this one up.
