@tjw1963 Yeah, I went to the blog and saw that. I’m kind of new to this and not sure how the calculations work. If you could explain that to me I would very much appreciate. Also, If there is extra yarn left on the chain how do I fix it. Thanks for taking the time to explain this to me!
@OURVasquezFAM I am estimating 151 but there are no guarantees that everything will come out exact. The multiple is posted on my crochet blog.
If I wanted to make a baby blanket, how many chains would I have to make in order for it to end correctly?
You will want to count to make sure you are not missing any stitches or adding to many.
Mine looks more like a slanted parallelogram than a square…how do I correct this? Any ideas?
thanks so muchhhhh.
Crochet it to the length that you want it to be. It takes two chains to make one star stitch, which is the multiple. You can sew in extra chains if you happen to have one left over.
I want to use this stitch to make a strap for a bag I’m making but i have no idea how long the chain is gonna have to be. What do I do?
Thanks so much for posting this tutorial! It clears up the problems I was having understanding how to do this stitch.
You can make this stitch with any size hook.
what size needle do i use for this?
Thank you for the comment.
I’ve happened upon your videos–at different time–during online searches. I LOVE them. …wonderfully clear!
Keep practicing and you will get the hang of the stitch. I appreciate the comment, Happy crocheting.
It took a couple tries before I could figure out how much tension to use in the stitches. I tend to crochet pretty tightly so I had to relax my hand a bit on this one in order to have enough room to get the hook through the side stitch on each of the stars. I am going to make my one year old a cuddly blanket and my five year old a little hat using this stitch. Thanks so much Teresa!!!!
It is really hard for me to know what is happening. I would suggest that you keep practicing and you will get it.
thanks for the reply now my probllem is it went into a shape like a rainbow even though it wasn’t tight and all lines were even??????
It could be that the stitches are to tight, not in the right place or not enough have been done.
Sometimes mine scrunches together and isnt straight am I pulling too tight???
You are welcome. I appreciate the comment, thank you. Happy crocheting!!
once again, you’ve made it look so simple and have given wonderful, clear instructions. I’ve learned a new stitch!! Thanks so much, Teresa! 5 crocheted stars for you!!
You have to have some many chains to make each star. For this pattern stitch it is 2. For each star you want to make, add 2 extra chains. The 3 is done only 1 time in the beginning to make up the difference for an odd amount of chains.
What do you mean by multiple is 2+3
I have never had a problem with yarn cutting my finger but I have with thread. I change my stitch tension all the time so it is never the same. Some stitches look better with a looser tension. Some look better with tighter tension. I will send you the recent video I did on tension. Most of the time I am in between but it shows the range of how tight or how loose I will crochet.
When you do your stitches, any of them, just regular single stitch or double or this one, do you do it fairly loose or tight. It looks tight, but seems loose. I ended up having to put a bandaide on my left index finger cause the yarn seemed to saw my skin raw, and my dad said it’s cause I’m holding it to tight, however I feel that it seems to look nicer if the stitches are tighter, and i can keep them more even.
