there are so many sites on the computer that can help you if you want to take the time to look but as an alternative you can e-mail me if you have a problem. I have been knitting and crocheting and for many years and would be very happy to help you with any problems.
I’ve found the Stitch ‘N Bitch series of books to be very helpful, and they have a crochet book available. They teach you the basic skills with lots of illustrations and clear instructions, and then give you successively difficult patterns that you can try the new techniques on.
Those are all good resources but I can see how such a list would be overwhelming. The book you get will depend on how you learn. Do you need a lot of photos? Then I would go with Teaching Yourself Visually Crocheting by Kim Werker and Cecily Keim.
If you don’t have a lot of time and need something quick, there is a leaflet that is geared toward preteen girls and I use it to teach all age groups because it has lots of photos and clear instructions. It is called I Can Crochet” and is Annie’s Attic 872551.

If you learn best by seeing, then check out videos such as those at Annie’s Attic
http://www.anniesattic.com/crochet/content.html?type_id=S
and Nexstitch http://www.nexstitch.com/
Or check out YouTube to search for specific topics.
If you like to read in more detail, there is a book called Crocheting in Plain English by Maggie Righetti that is good.
If you want an online resource, of course I recommend my web site http://www.crochetcabana.com and there are many others online like the CGOA web site at http://www.crochet.org.
Good luck!
