Question by Rebecca K: “the Knitting Bible” vs.”The Knitting and Crochet Bible”?
I took up knitting last year, and a friend of mine recently started as well. We’ve decided to work on some projects together, and she’d already bought “The knitting and crochet bible”. I would rather not spend the money on it quite yet, but our library only has “The knitting bible” and “The crochet bible”, which is by the same author as “the knitting and crochet” one.
Does anyone know if the patterns and instructions are the same? Did they just combine the two book into one, or is it a totally separate and different book?
Thanks!

Why don’t you take her book to the library and randomly pick out patterns and see if they are in the book? Take the two and put it next to to one and see if the combination is thicker? See if there is something written in her book to indicate that the one is the combination of the two..

You crochet a swatch that is 10 stitches wide and 17 rows high. You make this swatch in whatever pattern is used for the body of the hat. It sounds like from the list it would be in single crochet. Then measure it. It should be four inches square. If it isn’t, you’ll need to make adjustments to the size of hook you are using until you can get it to meet those dimensions.
If your gauge (the size of your stitches) doesn’t match what is called for, your hat won’t fit.
If your swatch is too large, try using a hook the next size smaller. If your swatch is too small, try using a hook the next size larger.
If you need help learning the actual stitches, try the tutorial on this site:

Question by Jennifer H: How do you make a “double crochet in each double crochet”?
I am making a granny square and i am on the 3rd round. It says “dc in each dc to the corner ch-sp”. I know how to make a double crochet, i just dont know what “in each double crochet” means? Is is the top two stiches of the double crochets from round 2? Then why doesnt it say “dc in each st”? Or is it the actual column for lack of a better word, that creates the double crochet itself? SO CONFUSED!

Question by marla: Cro-hooking, cro-knitting, double hook crochet, “crochet on the double”?
Cro-hooking also know as cro-knitting, double hook crochet and “crochet on the double” is a variation of afghan stitch or Tunisian crochet.
Are there any good sites out there that teach this? I’ve googled and the instructions are mind boggling.
Also, any free patterns that are pretty and not dishrags?

It is not exactly a variation of afghan or tunisian stitch, and yet it is.

bellaonline does not accept Yahoo addresses as they consider Yahoo a spam generator, so you cannot use a Yahoo address to register for the forum to ask and answer questions. But the site has lots of good information on Crochet variations.
I bought one of those hooks and did one blanket making the squares and whip stitching them together. Did not care for the limited patterns available.

I am trying to find a crochet (not knit) pattern for a pair of mittens where the part covering the fingers can be folded back. I wanted to make them for my dad. He hunts and I feel like they could be useful.
